APRIL SHOWERS, READ FOR HOURS

Suspend an umbrella from the ceiling or use rain slickers and galoshes.

 

SOARING HIGH WITH BOOKS
FLY INTO YOUR LIBRARY FOR BOOKS
DON'T BE BLOWN AWAY WITH BOREDOM - - - READ

Suspend colorful kites from the ceiling.  You could use a fan for movement.

 

MOTHER'S DAY
Use a flower like a daisy for the "O".

 

HATS OFF TO MOM 

Use beautiful hats and display of books.

Another Mother's Day idea is to decorate using different kinds of bags, such as diaper, tote, and evening bags.  Use accessories like keys, calendars, sack lunch bags, homework papers to sign, sunglasses, etc.  Any of these could accompany books on parenting, working mom, or devotions for moms.

GRADUATION

Cap and gown, rolled paper with ribbon (diploma facsimile), photos of graduates (current and elementary).

   

 

Summer

FOR AN OVERALL GOOD TIME, VISIT YOUR CHURCH LIBRARY

Hang a pair of stuffed overalls with a checkered shirt.  (We use preschool size clothing.)

DOG DAYS OF SUMMER ARE FOR READING

Display bobble head dogs.  Prop a book in front of them.  Position fan to move their heads back and forth as if the dogs are reading the book.

STEP INTO THE LIBRARY or PUT YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD

Decorate with shoes, sandals, or footprints.

 

BEE ALL YOU CAN BE - READ

CULTIVATE GOOD READING HABITS

Autumn

FALL INTO READING

 

FALL IN LOVE WITH BOOKS  or


A HARVEST OF GOOD BOOKS

Use fall colors, artificial leaves, child's rake, pumpkins, scarecrows, gourds, etc.  Use a large basket on its side with artificial produce, gingham fabric and your favorite books that match the color scheme.

Winter


THERE'S SNOW BETTER TIME TO READ

Hang snowflakes from the ceiling.  During the 2002 Winter Olympics, we decorated with ski equipment that had been loaned to us.

COOL RESOLUTIONS

For New Year's, use daily devotionals calendars, coffee mugs, day planners, etc.


CURL UP BY THE FIRE WITH A BOOK


ON FIRE FOR READING  or


CURL UP BY THE FIRE WITH A BOOK

Make logs by rolling newspaper.  Spray them brown with black streaks.  Make "fire" using orange, red, and yellow tissue or crepe paper.  Add movement using a fan on the "flames".

UNWRAP A BOOK THIS CHRISTMAS

Display with rolls of wrapping paper and gift boxes with books spilling out.


 

READING IS SWEET or

FOR A SWEET TIME, VISIT THE LIBRARY

Dot the "i's" with round candy.  For Valentine's Day, decorate using hearts and traditional red and pink colors.

Put Noah's Ark items in display.

READERS ARE LEADERS

 

ARE YOU MISSING SOMETHING FROM YOUR LIFE?

Show a puzzle with a piece missing.  Put the missing piece on a stack of spiritual books including the Bible.


COLOR YOUR WORLD - READ

You could use this for many different seasons, such as back to school with art supplies or springtime with flowers.  It could also be used with a globe and books about foreign missionaries.


 

HATS OFF TO GOOD BOOKS
Use a variety of hats.  Display on a hat tree or in hat boxes.

IT'S TIME TO VISIT THE LIBRARY
Use a clock for display.  You can make one out of a CD.

SINK YOUR TEETH INTO A TASTY BOOK
Display books with toothpaste, toothbrush, etc.

UNDERCOVER READING
Child doll in pajamas, flashlight, book (all under covers).  Of course, we can see under the covers.

WANTED:  MEDIA USERS
Newspaper background.

WE OFFER CLEAN BOOKS!
Decorate using soap, washcloths, etc. Make a bar of soap look like a person reading by attaching pipe cleaner arms, tiny glasses, paper book in hands.
Use translucent bubbles, scrubbing brushes, empty bleach bottle, etc.

BOOKWORMS WELCOME-- Decorate using apples with worms, fishing poles with worms, a can of worms, or books with bookworms.

READING - A "BEAR" NECESSITY

Decorate using teddy bears or make a paper one that extends past bulletin board with lettering on its stomach.

SWEEP UP SOME BARGAINS...OUR MEDIA IS FREE FOR CHECKOUT

Use brooms in a variety of sizes and styles, dustpans, dust bunnies (pom poms), etc.  Glue little eyes on dust bunnies.  Make tiny books for dust bunnies to read.


DANGER: IDEA EXPLOSION AREA

Spray paint tennis balls black.  Insert a long pipe cleaner to resemble a fuse.


 

HAIR RAISING TALES or

HAVING A BAD HAIR DAY?  READ

Choose appropriate titles for either theme. You can make pencil people with fake hair and give them a wind blown look.  Glue on eyes, mouth, bow tie, etc.


 

TRAINING FOR LIFE

Make a sign that looks like a railroad crossing sign.

 

TUCK A GOOD BOOK IN YOUR POCKET

Use a denim jeans pocket to display books.


 

WE HAVE MEDIA FOR ALL MOODS

Faces:  Use permanent marker to make facial expressions on tennis balls.  You can glue on googly eyes for some expressions.  Also, you can use fake hair.
